Alerts and SMS are sent over a cellular connection, so it needs a subscription dataplan from us to work (just $4/month, cancel anytime). Just like your cell phone has a modem and simcard, so does your sensor. Cellular is more secure, is global, and isn't easily hacked or defeated (can't unplug the router or turn off the power to defeat it!). There are no family plans, but if you're purchasing more than 3 units we may be able to work with you.
Insert the battery (there's no on button!) and it will start monitoring any dark, and motionless space you place it in. Place in a storage unit, luggage, room or safe for example. When there's an instrusion of either light or motion (someone walks in, someone opens your luggage etc.,) Duo wakes up and finds the best network available in your area of the world wherever you are, and sends you an alert to your phone. Alerts take on average about 10-20 seconds to recieve after you trigger the device.Need more info on operations that you don't see here? Simtek Duo comes pre-installed with a special high performance roaming simcard that automatically connects to the best available network in over 200 countries, with thousands of different carriers. For example, if you use Duo to monitor luggage in Florida it might connect to T-Mobile, then you travel to California it might connect to ATT, then in United Kingdom connect to Orange, or Israel Pelephone. In every country, there are typically many networks available for Duo to use automatically. No setup required on your part, insert the battery and go anywhere!
Duo is a low power cellular based wireless security sensor that does not need hubs, WiFi, or external power. You won't find another security sensor with a full year of battery life, global range and setup in seconds. We integrate with IFTTT, and constantly improve the product.

Worldwide UMTS/HSPA and GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks to provide true global coverage. But, you don't need to worry about this since Duo auto-connects to everything on it's own (similar to a roaming cell-phone).
The moment your Simtek Duo wireless security sensor is triggered, it automatically connects to the best network connection available where you are. In the USA, it uses either AT&T, T-Mobile or a few others on the GSM spectrum. If you live in Texas, and monitor your basement safe it might connect to T-Mobile. Let's say you take Duo with you to monitor your luggage while it's sitting at the hotel, and you're now in New York. Duo will automatically connect to maybe AT&T there, if that's a better conncetion. Then, let's say you hop on a plane from New York and head to London. Duo will automatically connect to Orange network or maybe O2 in the UK. And the best part? All you do is insert the battery - NEVER worry about about configuration on your part. Unlmited alerts. Unlimited global coverage. $4 per month.
Battery life is a full year with about 10 alerts per month. Battery life depends on things like temperature (colder climates reduce battery life) and how often you use it in addition to other variables. We've seen battery life of 7-9 months with pretty heavy use, around 30 alerts per month. There are low battery alerts, and there's battery level information on the app so you know when to recharge. Use the included Micro USB to recharge once every 6-12 months.
A passive infrared motion sensor (PIR) and a light sensor.
No false positives. Here's why: 1) since it uses infrared motion detection and not something like an accelerometer or proximity motion, if your Duo is in the safe or luggage and the space gets bumped into, it won't triggere. Something or someone has to physically open or enter the space to trigger. Similarly, an earthquake wouldn't trigger it, only if a human or animal with a heat signature breached the space, or light shown through.
Yes. Your Simtek Duo Sensor works inside your safe, even if your safe is located in your basement. Every sensor includes an external antenna should you need it, but we've yet to have a customer need to use it. Tested inside dozens of safes and works well.
No! Duo was intentionally engineered for poor network signal environments, just like inside a thick metal safe. Duo only sends a very small amount of data with each alert, and works great in poor network conditions. We knew Duo would be in environments with poor signal, so we designed and engineered it to perform in these scenarios the same as it would in better signal environments.
Duo uses a special simcard that connects to the best signal networks automatically, anywhere in the world. Duo has full coverage in over 200 countries, so we believe this will be a rare scenario. In addition, Duo was specifically built for poor network environments. But in the rare event this happens, we will be happy to work with you to find a solution.
About 15-20 seconds.

FCC, CE. The product is safe for all ages. All data is securely stored on Amazon's private cloud based in the USA with heavy encryption. All alert transmissions are encrypted over private cellular networks and are highly secure.
Subscribing multiple people to receive alerts is easy. They simply download the app on their phone, and go through the same setup you did. Note: the original user will get a subscriber notification warning them other people have synced to their device to recieve alerts. Also note: adding and removal of subscribers can only be from each phone. You cannot add or remove anyone from your phone, only yourself for security reasons.
Low battery alerts are pushed to you automatically when the battery is low telling you to recharge. Recharing the battery should take a couple hours, wait until the yellow charge light goes off.
Easy. Simply unplug the wired antenna! That's it. Each sensor has an onboard antenna that you can't see. It's not as powerful as the wired antenna, but it should still get the job done.
